15’000 of you! Time to celebrate 🎉🥂
The European Engineer newsletter reaches 15k subs. Here's what happened in the past 2.5 years 👇
15’000 subscribers to The European Engineer 🥳
This is THE project that allowed me to start my own business.
Here’s the story:
Born in small-town central Italy from parents who didn’t go to uni
Good at STEM, curious about other fields
Humanities high school (Liceo Classico), then Robotics Engineering BSc
First year of BSc: boring classes, full of nerds, no girls, consider switching to cinema or mathematics
Finally, stick to BSc and graduate in 3.5 years [2017]
In the meantime: Milan techno/rap/underground scene, Erasmus semester in Seville
Throughout BSc: understand that there’s no money in Italy’s robotics scene + learn about devs in the US making 6 figures
Discover computer science and programming and realise I liked it better than robotics
Get a €800/mo internship in Milan doing Computer Vision, then a 80k CHF/year dev job in Zurich
Realise Google devs in Zurich made €150k+ a year as new grads [2018]
Decide that I want an engineering career like in the US: cool projects + six figures pay.
2019-2020: MSc in CS in Milan, land big tech internships (Databricks, Airbnb, Uber, and more); get offers rescinded during Covid, run out of money, bounce back with a paid internship in Madrid
Join Amazon Barcelona [2021] and consider moving to the US (Seattle)
Drop the idea of moving to the US, go back to Zurich, join Oracle in 2022 with a ~$200k job
2012-2017: 5 years to understand robotics and Italy wasn’t for me
2017-2022: 5 years to learn how to get US-level tech careers in/from Europe + actually get there
Realise that I had accumulated serious expertise on the topic of Tech Careers in Europe, and that the internet lacked that intel
Inspired by Gergely Orosz and his The Pragmatic Engineer newsletter, create a newsletter called The European Engineer
Spend a weekend creating a logo, realise I like working on my own projects
September 2023 drop my first article, anonymously
January 2024: reveal identity + start posting on LinkedIn
3 months of LinkedIn with little/moderate results
Things pick up on LinkedIn: frequently go viral + grow newsletter
Make 6 figure Tech Careers in Europe mainstream
April 2024: ask newsletter subs if they’re interested in coaching -> “yes” -> launch coaching program
First applicant and client Nicola Bovolato joins the program and in a few months lands his first six-figure remote role in Europe
June 2024: launch a Google Sheet to track high-paying tech jobs in Europe, no paywall
People love it -> add paid tier to Substack -> grant access to the Google Sheet to Substack paid subs
June 2024 - May 2026: the Google Sheet is now EuroTopTech.com
THE place to find top-paying tech jobs in Europe
Onsite, hybrid and fully-remote jobs
Compensation and savings data
AI tools to help with career strategy and CV review
Guides on landing six-figure tech roles in Europe
Discord community
And more
Then:
Iterate, iterate, iterate.
Go viral, go viral, go viral.
Educate tech workers in Europe on high-paying tech careers (with this newsletter and ETT guides); facilitate their journey with Euro Top Tech.
2025: close my first full year as a full-time business owner with ~70k eur revenue.
Grow LinkedIn to 10k, then 20k, then 30k... Now sitting at ~63’500.
Start YouTube channel and grow it to ~2’400 subs.
More recently, start on X and grow it to ~1’700 followers, talking about relocation and remote life.
Launch a few projects in the remote work space, finally merge them under RemoteGOATs.com:
Six-figure remote tech jobs worldwide
Career guides and tools
AI Relocation Advisor
And more.
As I write this, I’m a full-time business owner with time and location freedom, no employees and no boss.
Q1 revenues ~18% higher than Q1 2025.
Working towards a +20% revenue increase for 2026 from 2025.
Almost every day I work, since I started this in 2023.
But, since 2023, none of it feels much like work: this is a hard-earned blessing.
If it wasn’t for all the groundwork I laid out in the ~10 years before 2023, none of what came after would’ve been possible.
The European Engineer used to be my only project.
It’s the project that started it all.
Reaching 15’000 subscribers here, 2.5 years after I started it, feels like a milestone.
Especially now that my brain is getting used to this entrepreneur thing being my new life and job.
Cheers to The European Engineer 🥂
THANK YOU ❤️
Especially to those who’ve been supporting my work, as free subs and early customers, from the beginning of this journey.
You did a lot for me.
I hope I managed to help you out too :)
