Career hack
Whenever you can, get in direct contact with people hiring at top companies. This can be recruiters, hiring managers, engineers posting job openings from their team etc.
The place where you do this is LinkedIn. I’ve got my Oracle Zurich job by connecting with a guy on LinkedIn, becoming his friend, and after like one year applying to a job with his referral.
In this sense, having a polished LinkedIn profile helps a lot, because it makes you presentable and gives a good first impression. Moreover, it’s also a good way to get inbound messages from recruiters about job opportunities. Because of this, I think my second paid article of this newsletter after the CV guide, will be a LinkedIn guide (btw these articles are paid but as you can see from the above CV guide, a good part of the article is free to read).
This week’s gift
The above leads us to this week’s gifts, which are selected LinkedIn posts about people hiring in top companies in Europe.
What I recommend:
Add these people on LinkedIn: this makes sure they get a look at your profile and built a first layer of familiarity with you, + you’ll see in the future when they post new/similar jobs.
In case your profile is already strong and potentially a good fit, you can DM them and say you’re interested in these roles. They’ll probably tell you to just apply through the website, but if you’re lucky and your profile is clearly strong they might be up for referring you.
In case your profile isn’t strong, you can ask them what they’d advise you to work on, to enable you to land such roles in the future. Ask for this WITHOUT asking for a referral. This will have the effect of them perceiving you as someone who’s just interested in growing and putting in the work, and this type of attitude almost always creates sympathy and willingness to help from others.
You can also just add them, and if they accept send them a message like: “Hi …, I’ve seen the roles you posted. They really seem like amazing opportunities. Unfortunately, I don’t think I am good enough for them yet, but I’ll make sure to keep improving as a software engineer, and hopefully sometime in the future be ready for such roles! Thanks for sharing these opportunities on LinkedIn, making it easier for devs like me to know what’s out there. Best, your_name”. This is just a nice message and you’re not asking anything from them, so they’re likely to reply to you something like “no problem! Good luck”. Once they do this, don’t do anything. Just wait some time (maybe months), and later on, once your profile is stronger, you can ask for something (for example, an advice on how to improve your chances of landing such jobs).
Here’s the LinkedIn posts with such opportunities
Some Google and Databricks opportunities from last week’s article, in case you missed it.
If you’re interested in taxes and incorporations
Check out this LinkedIn thread about a discussion I had with a famous SaaS founder / solopreneur about incorporating in Switzerland vs in Estonia. Lots of good stuff in there IMO.
Also, you might want to explore this new partnership I’ve done with a company specialised in helping remote workers optimise their taxes (bringing taxes to under 5-10%) while giving workers optionality to live in places they like (i.e. without having to move to a place like Dubai just to pay less taxes).
Coaching Program
Next week I’m starting a new iteration of my coaching program and I’m quite pumped about it.
The last edition was 🔥🔥
Helping people in the program achieve results like this one
is incredibly rewarding.
Check the other testimonials here.
The program is sold out again, but if you’re interested, I highly recommend you to apply already now to get into the waiting list, because whenever I launch a new edition of the program or I open up some spots, I always pick up people from the waiting list first.
For this edition of the program, for example, I took about 90% of the participants from the waiting list.
Job Board
As you can see, it was a bit of a busy week, so I haven’t made huge progress on the job board itself, except for adding new fully-remote companies.
Next week I plan to increase the frequency of the job updates to make it bi-weekly instead of weekly.
For the new subs (intro to Euro Top Tech Jobs):
As you might know already, I run a job board containing top-paying dev jobs in Europe, weekly updated and sent to The European Engineer paid subscribers (5 eur/month or 50 eur/year).
Recently, I’ve also started creating a list of high-paying fully-remote job, shared in the job board: I’m adding 3 companies per week; started on 20/07/2024, and with this week’s update we’re at 33 companies with salaries in the $100k-$500k range for fully-remote jobs.

That’s all for this week! Enjoy the weekend 🤍
