Some interesting roles you can apply to today:
Disclaimer: these roles aren’t sponsored (I wish! lol). They’re just among the job postings currently available at eurotoptechjobs.com.
1. FPGA Hardware Engineer - Internship at G-Research [link]
G-Research is a popular quant finance firm, and, as such, they pay a lot :)
Quant finance firms are also very interesting places to work tech-wise, because usually the tech they build pushes the boundaries of performance, correctness and algorithms.
Embedded engineers usually have access to much fewer opportunities than other software engineers (web, distributed systems, data, ML, mobile, frontend, etc), and in this sense it isn’t a path I would encourage you to get into.
But, some people like it, and there’s great value in doing something you like.
If you’re a student and are into embedded software dev, this is a prime opportunity: working as a FPGA/Hardware/Embedded engineer for a quant trading firm is one of the very best opportunities you can get for your career in terms of pay, learnings, and fun.
Getting in as an intern is way better and easier than getting in for a full-time role.
Give it a shot!
2. Java Software Engineer at IMC Trading [link]
Another top quant trading firm, with office in Amsterdam: if you’re interested in this field, the top locations in Europe are London, Amsterdam, and to some extent Switzerland - although quite a bit less than the first two.
This is for a more regular backend engineer, yet still in the unique fields of low-latency, high-performance trading software.
In general, these places are cool if, as a dev, you don’t mind working side by side with people with backgrounds in mathematics, finance, and system/hardware engineering. In addition to software and CS of course.
3. Machine Learning Engineer - LLM Post-training (4-6 month Internship / Contract) at DFINITY [link]
DFINITY is a cool company to work for.
They’re building a “revolutionary product”. To be fair, I’m not sure if they’ll actually manage to revolutionise anything, or if at some point once the money runs out they’ll pivot to become another cloud saas.
But it’s good if you don’t want to work on CRUD app dev, while getting a salary at almost big tech levels.
Moreover, they hire in Zurich, which means that it’s a good company to reach 200k/300k/400k comp levels, and - big plus! - it’s among the few high-paying and remote friendly Swiss based companies.
I think this role is interesting, because it gives you the chance to jump on the hottest field in tech right now (LLM), which can be useful in many ways, including if you later on want to land top-paying fully-remote roles in companies like the fully-remote high-paying ones in eurotoptechjobs.com - given that a lot of them are well-funded US startups that hire remotely and that often operate in the AI field (in addition to Crypto and other high-paying and remote-friendly verticals).
This position being “4-6 Month Internship or Contract starting ASAP” makes me think that they’re quite desperate to have just about anyone join to help them, and that therefore the bar for hiring might be lower than usual. So it could be an easy way in, which you can turn into a great full-time opportunity by performing well! 😎
