According to data from https://eurotechmoney.com/, it looks like Poland has surpassed Germany in salaries.

In particular:
When sorting countries by
Before-Tax Total Compensation
Poland stands 5th in Europe at 90’040 euros, while Germany is 6th at 89’741 euros.
This is a significant result.
The difference only becomes bigger when we sort by more significant metrics, such as
After-Tax Total Compensation
Where Poland is 3rd at 66’859 euros, and Germany is 7th at 54’874 euros.
Interestingly enough, things don’t get much worse than that for Germany, if we look at
CoL-adjusted after-tax TC
In this rank, Poland is 2nd at 70’549 euros, and Germany is 6h at 51’325 euros.
In this sense, Germany doesn’t even perform all that bad, especially compared to “good” countries like Switzerland, the UK or the Netherlands (which were leading the TC ranks).
This is due to the fact that CoL in Germany is not THAT crazy yet
(although it has risen)
Still better than Zurich
And to the fact that many things in Germany are tax-paid, and people can generally get by with a decent standard of living without relying on the “private” (schools, healthcare etc) too much.
Although I heard that quality of these services have degraded over the years, as well as heard that safety has become a concern in recent years.
I’m genuinely curious to learn more from people living in Germany if they still find it worthwhile to be there, and why.
To me, it seems like it’s not worth it anymore
And when people try to defend it, they don’t seem to bring up any reasonable thesis?
Nor a comprehensive analysis.
Yearly Savings
German devs, according to https://eurotechmoney.com/, on avg save about 20k euros per year, whereas Polish devs save up 32k euros per year
Conclusion
Honestly, I have personally nothing against Germany. And, as “The European Engineer”, I hoped the country would be doing well!
But evidence seems to suggest against it?
Would love to hear about the quality of the public services in 2025, because otherwise I wouldn’t know how to justify literally the worst tax rates in Europe.
