Here’s why EuroTopTechJobs.com started as a Google Sheet.
(and why you might consider creating Google Sheet before starting to build a SaaS)
Login, UI, & sharing are baked-in. → No auth flow, no front-end framework, no DB setup.
Everyone knows how to use it. → Instant onboarding = zero documentation.
APIs are solid. → Need real-time updates from a Python script or an ML pipeline? One call to Apps Script or the Sheets API.
Speed to market ≈ 0. → Idea at breakfast → share on socials by lunch → feedback by dinner.
Easy to graduate later. → Once you have paying users and usage data, port the core to a bespoke web app.
Real-world examples
EuroTopTechJobs.com is not the only SaaS that started as a Google Sheet.
Levels.fyi started the same way.
Nomadlist too.
If your v1 can fit in a spreadsheet, ship the spreadsheet.
Bonus tips - from my own experience
Adding to the ones shared last week.
1. Leverage your experience
I didn't start "from scratch": I built on my existing career in tech in Europe, and on all the skills gathered in that time.
2. Keep the scope tiny + niche down
EuroTopTechJobs.com is a simple product, and I'm targeting a small niche where I have a competitive advantage and personal experience (and a large-enough audience).
3. Stay calm when everything's on fire
When you’re building for customers in the real world, some weeks can feel like nothing is working, others like everything is on easy-mode.
I think that's normal when starting out.
4. Iterate in public
Content → feedback → new and better content + services and products
5. Don't rush it
Having enough money in the bank + a career to fall back to if the business doesn't work out make the journey less stressful.
It's fine to work a few years as an employee before trying out entrepreneurship.
Great place to find jobs that put a lot of money in the bank :) → EuroTopTechJobs.com
