As someone who lives in Madrid, Spain, I have to say I like it here!

I think there's room for anything you want (and can afford). If you're the kind of person who lives in the city center, you can do so. If you want to move to a detached house but be close to the center and have transport redundancy (train mainly), you also can.

I agree with the taxes and retirement system being wicked. We all have to take care of our own future instead of relying on the government. But I'm just talking from an employee PoV, for a company, it's not the best place to be

Thanks for sharing! I also think it's a great lifestyle place. I heard that traffic can get a bit annoying and that there'll be a tradeoff between the many good things it offers as a big city and the fact that it can take an hour to get to such things? When I lived in Pozuelo I remember taking forever to get to the center

Yes, I personally don't have a car and commute to work by train. I see the road from the train window's every day and they are always crowded. My girlfriend goes by car every day but she goes in the opposite direction of people getting inside/outside during peak hours, so it's more manageable.

But yes, one has to pay attention to the peak hours, to the football matches and concerts in the stadiums as we usually take the roads close to the Atletico de Madrid's Stadium, etc.

For us, having public transport we almost never choose to get the car to go to the center itself
