Please stop recommending Romania as it's about to be Greece 2008. And our government is planning some more surprise tax-hikes like we got between Christmas and new year 2024. Now they're leaking into the press a surprise dividend hike to 16%
Also, since last year the max threshold was modified to 100k eur (From 250k eur) (Go 1 eur above 100k Eur income and you automatically have to pay the 16% profit tax )
Taxes for IT freelancers are around ~20% now: 3% income, 10% Dividend and a fixed another 2000 eur/year, 16% on profit OR Have a minimum wage full time Employee which costs about 500 eur/month in taxes etc... you end up with 80k Net for 100k income.
How about air quality in Poland? I remember having read a few years ago that in the Krakow area, they have some air polution problem. Not sure though if it was a tempoary one. And also hands down concerning this whole info.
But I like breathing good air. It's also said that bad air quality can have a hard effect on the health. So I want to take that point seriously, especially if I'd plan to stay longer.
Air quality is not great in winter in the big cities but largely ok in summer/spring. Also it's improving. I don't think it'll be a big issue going forward. You can check this site for more data (both historical and daily data): https://www.iqair.com/us/world-air-quality-ranking.
If you want extra clean air, then other places can offer similar things to poland but with better air: czechia, estonia, croatia. Althought they might lack some of the things that poland offers.
or portugal/spain if you're ok living in a socialist society with high taxes (unless you qualify for special tax incentives - which are also a bit annoying to comply to)
Air quality might be a tricky thing to judge. Depends how bad it is in winter. If you can live with it, then it's maybe ok. On the other hand, is it worth saving money on the long term cost of your health? Even if it is improving in Poland, we are not yet there.
Or maybe go to Poland and live directly by the sea. I think at the sea, the air is always better. Or go to Warsaw in summer and to the sea in winter (if possible).
Actually I'm also interested in Bangkok a lot. But I think I have heard that air quality might be also a problem there.
On the other hand, if you live let's say in New York City, air quality might be even worse, but because it's just New York City, you won't even wonder or worry about that point. While with "lesser developed" areas in the world, you'll stay more sceptical. Human judgement. Or: Live great, die younger lol.
Ok great, I'll save that link. Could always be useful if I need more concrete details at some time in future.
Good to know also about the Gdansk area. I haven't heard about before that this is a great place. I'm just seeing on the map that it is even a bit closer to Berlin (where I'm currently living) than Warsaw.
A good place for me to start some "Polish adventure" might be Szczecin. Because it is extremely close to Berlin, which can be an advantage if I plan to leave. I even wonder if you could play some "live in Szczecin, work in Berlin" game for tax saving.

The link I provided above can give you all the data that you need around air pollution.
Warsaw, for instance, is way better than cities like Bangkok and Dubai when it comes to pollution. It doesn't even compare.
It's more similar to places like Paris or Berlin.
If you want clean air in Poland in all seasons you can consider the "Tricity" area (Gdańsk, Gdynia and Sopot). Great place!
