20 days ago I started this free community for tech workers with a fully-remote job, earning $100k+ per year.
Why I started this community
I know several people - both personally, and online - with a fully-remote dev job, making $100-400k per year.
Most of them have one thing in common: they kind of got their role “by chance”.
If you want to get a big tech job, at this point there’s a “science” around it:
Plenty of free content to explain to you what these jobs are about
Easy to know which are these companies
Straightforward interview process and clear way to prepare
Similar simplicity of landing interviews: easy to get referrals etc
They also offer plenty of job openings (4000+ roles open right now just for EMEA on Euro Top Tech Jobs)
But for a high-paid remote role, there are a few issues:
Most of these companies are smaller and lesser known (again, with Euro Top Tech Jobs, I’m trying to solve this problem by building a list of such companies - now at 42+)
For big tech, you can get a referral online quite easily, because they’re huge companies: you can add people on LinkedIn, ask on Blind.com, LeetCode.com, etc - and you’re likely to find at least one person willing to refer you.
For these remote companies, since they’re smaller, it’s harder to find someone to give you a referral.
In many cases, people end up with a remote role in creative ways: they turn their in-office/hybrid/country-remote role to a fully-remote one after a few years of tenure (keeping their high compensation), they find a high-paying company in a low-cost location (not quite the same as fully-remote, but at least geo-arbitraged), they start a contracting business, they build a saas, etc.

This community I started is just a private Telegram channel, with as of now 36 members - all gathered in the last 20 days.
The requirement to enter is to have a fully-remote job (that you can conduct from anywhere in the world, or at least from EMEA), and that you’re making $100k per year or more in salary/profit before taxes.
We started out with a single chat, then started having separate channels to talk about various things: taxes, places to live, tech, companies and jobs, etc.
I think this will bring the community a lot of value, and I will make sure to share my learnings here on this newsletter. So, if you’re interested in this world, stay tuned!
Some cool things happened in the group in the last 20 days
A lot of great chats already.
People seem to know a lot about optimising taxes and that thread alone became a mine of information.
There’s also a lot of jobs’ referral movement, which I find extremely cool.
Given that everyone in the channel has a 6 figure remote job, all the jobs that people mention there, belong to this category.
And oftentimes they’re in really small companies and teams, and you’d be applying with a referral from another member of the community, who can also tell you all about the interview process etc. So you have a very good chance at landing the role, if you’re a good fit, which is really cool!

I keep doing research on this, and I think the typical tech stack of modern, high-paying remote companies is:
Python: for they LLM/data needs
TypeScript: for both their node.js backends and React/Next.js/Vue.js frontends
Oftentimes a cloud provider like AWS
Sometimes k8s
I might share some roles like this in a future article (maybe even tomorrow).
