It’s a good time to target Big Tech in Zurich
There’s a new Big Tech in Zurich: RIVR, the Swiss autonomous driving and robotics company, is now part of Amazon. Its engineers moved onto Amazon’s engineering ladder, which means Big Tech pay tiers. And it’s hiring: AI and robotics, but also regular backend and DevOps SWE roles.
Until now, a “generalist” Big Tech SWE role in Zurich mostly meant Google, plus a few sporadic roles at other Big Techs that otherwise hire research roles.
Right now you have:
Big Techs hiring SWEs: Pinterest, Snowflake, NVIDIA, Google
Big Techs hiring FDEs, Solutions Engineers and Solutions Architects: AWS, Microsoft, Salesforce, Databricks
Big Techs hiring AI, robotics and R&D: Meta, Apple, Anthropic, OpenAI, and now Amazon with RIVR
And the timing works. Q1 is when new headcount is given and teams start hiring, so the next 2.5 months are for networking and interview prep.
It’s probably the best time in 3 to 4 years to target Big Tech in Zurich. Full post on LinkedIn, and all the Zurich roles on Euro Top Tech.
Six figures in Europe, remotely
5 companies hiring remotely in Europe for six-figure tech jobs:
kapa.ai: $100k to $170k + equity in its job ads, remote across Europe
Mozilla: around €135k median total comp in Germany, remote in 8 European countries
Fuse Energy: £75k to £105k for software engineers, some senior roles remote across Europe
Addepar: remote roles in the UK and Poland, UK engineering managers at £145k to £170k
Hugging Face: remote-first, hiring across EMEA
Pay is from the companies’ job ads and salary sharing sites. The LinkedIn post, and every remote role on Euro Top Tech.
€170k to €245k + equity for a Software Engineer in Spain
Sierra is hiring a Software Engineer, Agent in Madrid (on-site) at €170k to €245k, plus equity.
Spain pays better than most devs think, and that is exactly the opportunity. Big Tech pay in Spain is not “normal Spanish SWE salary” pay. From Levels.fyi:
Amazon Spain: around $70k average pay for junior engineers
Apple Spain: around $90k average pay for junior engineers
And local tech workers are not as informed as Zurich or London ones, which means lower competition.
My take, if you’re a strong dev in Spain (or willing to relocate there):
Stop benchmarking yourself only against local companies
Study for Big Tech interviews
Find the high-paying startups and scale-ups
Not only Big Tech: 11 companies paying six figures in Europe
Companies most people don’t think of:
Scale AI: London, median total comp £173k
Indeed: Dublin, median total comp €168k (senior €223k)
HashiCorp (now IBM): UK, median total comp £153k
Plain: London, senior engineers £90k to £140k + equity
telli: Berlin, €85k to €160k + equity
Superhuman (formerly Grammarly): Berlin, security engineers €125k to €160k
ServiceNow: Dublin, median total comp €109k
Okta: Dublin, staff SREs €92k to €127k base, plus equity and bonus
Zendesk: Poland, ML engineers €98k to €146k base
Xero: London, senior engineers around £109k
SumUp: Germany, staff engineers around €145k
Big Tech offers plenty of great opportunities. But it’s not the only way to a six-figure salary in Europe, especially in 2026. The LinkedIn post
The state of LeetCode in 2026
“Is LeetCode still worth it now that AI writes code?” An MLE with 1.5 years of experience asked me this last week. Short answer: yes. Big Tech is still asking it, and the bar moved up.
1. Big Tech (on-site, Europe)
Still LeetCode: crush mediums fast and actually solve hards
Switzerland has the highest bar (tiny market, Google takes most of the top roles). Poland, Romania and the rest of CEE are a bit more forgiving, with the same question bank
Mid-level and senior+: add system design, and often a leadership or behavioral round on top
2. Everything else (scale-ups, remote-first companies)
Solid on mediums is enough
The variable part is the rest: take-home tests, pair programming, role or company specific rounds. That’s where people get caught off guard, not on algorithms
3. Non-SWE roles (DS, DE, MLE, AI Eng, FDE, SE, PE)
Same two layers, plus a round on the role’s own skills: ML fundamentals, SQL and pipelines, eval design, customer-facing problem solving
Which one depends on the role, and it’s all researchable before you apply (the Path in Career Lab maps the prep to the role you pick)
AI changed how you write code at work. It hasn’t changed how most companies decide to hire you. Yet. The LinkedIn post
What’s new on Euro Top Tech
The last full rewind was in #35, in August. Here’s what shipped since.
Job board
Hundreds of new companies, thousands new roles.
One board for every job: on-site, hybrid, remote in a country and remote across Europe, all under one Workplace filter. 17,000+ roles. The fully remote page is the same board, opened on the remote roles.
Posted pay ranges: when a posting states its pay, the card shows it, and the savings figure follows that range.
Better pay estimates outside engineering: Big Tech estimates now depend on the role’s function, so a procurement or sales role no longer carries an engineer’s pay.
Highest pay and Lowest pay sorts, across on-site and remote roles.
One card per role: copies of the same posting in several cities are grouped, and a posting that names several countries (”London or Stockholm”) shows up in each of them.
Hide what you’re done with: Not for me, Applied and Tracked jobs leave your board, synced across your devices. Postings you report (expired, not relevant) leave it too.
Company logos on every job card.
Shareable links: the address bar keeps your filters, searches and sort.
New job cards and job dialog, easier to read on phones and zoomed screens.
Career Lab
Tracker: change a status from its pill, a Ghosted status, filters and sorting for your applications, plus AI-suggested scores for your target roles.
Saving a job on the board reaches your Career Lab backup without opening Career Lab, and the backup stays in sync across browsers.
Ask: a site assistant in the feedback bubble that answers “how do I...” questions about Euro Top Tech, for members.
Data
Paste to contribute: paste an offer, a payslip or a PDF on the contribute form and it fills the fields for you. Plus a contract type toggle.
Pay on the /data rankings, with medians per level.
Coming soon
A job market trends page: which role families are growing on the board, week over week.
That’s all for today!
