In recent years, I’ve become more interested in remote work
First, as a lifestyle “hack” for tech workers, then a feature of my new job.
As I’ve become a fully-remote business owner, one question has been sucking up a lot of my time (actually 2 questions):
1. Where do I open my business?
In the end, I opened it in Switzerland.
After a lot of careful considerations, and hours of research analysing other alternatives.
Of course, this decision was dependant on my subjective situation and, in a way, on a form of “bias” of the fact that I was living there already.
2. Where do I go live myself?
This is a more nuanced question: technically you can have the business in one place and live in another.
But it’s also not that easy: there’s setups that you need to study to make it legal.
Anyway: even after having found a good setup (or adapted mine), I would also need to find somewhere “good”?
The problem is that finding somewhere good across the board is extremely complex.
Long story short: this decision is super complicated and you need to account for a shitton of variables, if you want to make a good choice.
Chat AI tools like ChatGPT can be very good and that’s what I’ve used so far in my analyses.
But they struggle to model the problem properly, and are not just optimised for it.
Also the results are not in a way that is useful, and they require infinite iterations to come up with something useful.
That’s why I built a custom app to address this problem.
It leverages AI in a smart and ad-hoc way, specific to this problem.
